Bachelorette Recap: Night 1

Katie Thurston’s season of The Bachelorette is here, and last night's premiere was everything I had hoped for. This season is a little different in many ways… Bachelor alum Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe have stepped in to host the show and lead Katie along her journey. Tayshia and Kaitlyn surprised Katie at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa in New Mexico and they sat down to get the scoop on what Katie is looking for in a man.

Katie’s sex-positive and confident personality is exactly what the show needed, and the men who signed up for the show were very prepared. Also, her bright orange “desert gem” dress was everything.

30 men stepped out of the limo (or an RV in Jeff Caravello’s case) in search of love with Katie. The men’s introductions were less gimmicky than I expected, but to my surprise, the ones with the strange introductions stole Katie’s heart.

Thomas from Poway, CA. stepped out of the limo first and his well-spoken words about his admiration for Katie started the night very appropriately, but then things took a bit of a turn towards weird as the night went on.

Tre from Covington, GA surprised Katie by hiding in the bed of a pickup truck full of playpen balls. This was the perfect opportunity for some ball-related puns. Katie seemed to enjoy his humor.. and truck.

My front runner and favorite so far, Greg from Edison, NJ was next to greet Katie. Her nerves and giddy smile swooned Katie, it also could be because he looks like her ex-boyfriend.

Austrian football player, Andrew S. impressed Katie with his fake British accent and his 1920’s vintage car.

A giant blue box rolls up, and instead of getting out of the box, James decided to stay in the box, for the majority of the night. Very strange because Katie never got to see his face until the night was almost over.

Christian from Boston, MA is one of my favorites, but only because he’s very hot. He came with a genie lamp and of course, made a “rub” sexual pun to Katie to in which she replied, “Yes, please.”

Last but not least, Connor freakin B came out of the limo dressed as a cat. Self-proclaimed cat lady, Katie, loved this a lot. A couple of cat puns later and the two seemed to have a very deep connection.

Katie’s talks with the men inside went well. Greg surprised her with a raw pasta necklace made by his niece, she sat in the back of the truck with Tre and talked about middle names, and she played street hockey with firefighter and Canadian Brenden.

The first kiss went to Justin from Baltimore, MD (my hometown hehe). He painted her a picture of roses and the two shared a kiss.

Jeff gave Katie a tour of his RV home. He served her a container of store-bought vegetables. The RV seemed dirty and very lived-in, she was not impressed.

James revealed himself out of the box. Not disappointed, he’s very attractive and Katie seemed to be pleasantly surprised.

The two other kisses went out.

Katie kissed Connor B. after the two played piano with their feet. The cat costume stayed on.

In the end, Greg got the first impression rose and it was the cutest thing ever. They shared a kiss and they both seem smitten.

Unfortunately, RV Jeff was one of the seven men sent home on night one.
