Hot girl summer... for yourself!
Megan Thee Stallion released “Hot Girl Summer” in August of 2019. The song was an absolute hit, but the message continued to be a trend past the height of the song. The words “Hot Girl Summer” have become a trend throughout social media, especially Tik Tok. I believe the definition of Hot Girl Summer is said best by the creator herself, Meg Thee Stallion. She defined “Hot Girl Summer” as “just being you, just having fun. It’s turning up, driving the boat, and not giving a damn about what nobody’s saying.”
The summer of 2021 is hyped up to be one of the best yet. After more than a year in quarantine, the vaccine rollout and capacity orders being lifted allow for a promising summer ahead. The trend of Hot Girl Summer on Tik Tok has been showing up on my FYP for a while now. It is encompassed by teen girls leaving their toxic boyfriends, creating wild bucket lists, grabbing their closest girlfriends, and do absolutely everything this summer, with no limits. Rather than allowing a significant other to control you, take the summer back and let it be known that you make the decisions for yourself. I am all for this trend, as I believe life is supposed to be lived doing what you want, rather than letting anyone tell you what to do.
The trend is a combination of women empowerment, along with the magical vibes of a hot July day. I think “Hot Girl Summer” should be about focusing on bettering yourself, surrounding yourself with positive people who lift you up, feeling confident in your bodies, and knowing all of your feelings and emotions are 100% valid.
So to everyone reading this: take back your summer, focus on yourself, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
