Style type method: Spring Cleaning Your Closet

Written by: Katie Watford

A woman’s closet is a very intimate personal space. It’s more than just a room
full of clothes, it’s like stepping into her diary each day.

Whether you are the fashionista type or a fashion-challenged entrepreneur, women only wear about 20% of their clothes, and 80% of their closets are
unused. And with the demand for fashion & and retail being at an all-time high, it feels
almost impossible to keep up with.
Your Closet: Old Personal Diary to Woman on Your Vision Board
It’s so easy to get caught up in the hype of buying new clothes living in 2024, but the
real reason why women have too many clothes in their closets they don’t wear is
because your closet has a lot of the old energy of the woman you used to be
stored inside of it. Getting dressed in this old energy keeps your
self-image stuck in the past of who you used to be (and this stunts your
business or personal growth to the next level). I always share with my clients
that the emotional state of your closet needs to shift from feeling like your ‘old
personal diary’ to feeling like the woman on your vision board.

Clothes tell stories - to others & and, most importantly, to ourselves.
Think of your clothes as photographs and your closet as a photo album.
Every time you flip through an old photo album, you start going down memory
lane by looking at all your old photographs.
Well, our clothes do the same thing. Our clothes absorb our emotions,
energy, & and experiences while we wear them. This is where our clothes can
emotionally trigger us both positively and negatively. For instance, there is a reason
why that’s your favorite blouse because it reminds you of the night you met your
husband when you went out with your girlfriends for Taco Tuesday, and he
almost split his beer on your top as he was trying to come over and say hi to you.
That particular blouse will always light you up and take you back to that
moment every time you look at it.

As we head into the new spring season, now is a great time to do a Closet Edit to
look at what makes clothes and helps eliminate some of the energy.

Spring Cleaning Your Closet

Here are four helpful tips to use to spring cleanse your closet:

1- START SMALL

Choose one section or category to focus on, such as tops. It’s easy to get
overwhelmed with a Closet Editing Process, and by breaking it up into small
this will make getting through a Closet Edit easier and more manageable.

2- COLORING
Organize your section by matching colors. You can go from lightest to darkest or
darkest to lightest. This will help you inventory what you own and what
needs to be purged. For example, if you own 11 different black tops, by
seeing them all together, you decide which ones you love wearing and which are
similar and can be donated.

3 - SET YOUR GOAL
Commit to a purge goal that you’re comfortable with. Many women have this
misthe conception that it’s again an all-or-nothingness purging their closet. For
instance, if you commit to getting rid of 8-10 pieces, this makes your Closet Edit
PrTherprocessois re achievable and will help get more wins iRemember, gegettingressed is a winning habit, so the more momentum you can create, the better you
will become.

4 - ASK QUESTION
-How often do I wear this?
-On a scale from 1 to 10, how do I feel when I wear this?
-Does this reflect an old chapter of my life, or is it going in the new style direction?
-Does this make me feel frumpy to like a badass?

Once you’ve removed these emotional layers that are feeling heavy in your
closet is now when you want to start to think about how you want to look to

Show up as the woman on your vision board. But here’s the secret: it doesn’t
start with shopping; it begins with knowing your Style Types.

This is a very potent piece of the Style Development Phase that removes
all the confusion about buying trendy pieces (that you don’t need) to
creating massive clarity on how to brand your style as the go-to expert to
unapologetic, and show up as the woman you are meant to be.

I broke down how we help our clients brand their style as the go-to expert
so that they can get dressed in 5 minutes & show up as the woman your vision
board using the Style Type Method.
