Calling All Fashion Designers! Red Carpet Green Dress & Tencel Luxe are Launching A Global Design Contest

So She Slays is excited to announce that Red Carpet Green Dress in partnership with Tencel Luxe are launching a global design competition beginning May 12 to July 30, 2020.

Aiming to spotlight sustainable fashion these two companies are stepping up to provide both emerging and established designers a chance of a lifetime. To enter you must be over 21 years old and submit one sketch of a red carpet worthy gown or suit. Two winning designers will receive a long list of prizes which include the opportunity to dress prominent influencers in fashion and entertainment for a red carpet moment. As well as present their work to an audience of eco-influencers in LA and the Red Carpet Green Dress (RCGD) Gala.

Coming at a time where the fashion industry is severely impacted by COVID-19, Samata, CEO of RCGD, along with an entire team, wanted to find a way to reconnect with the global design community in an effort to bring about elements of hope and opportunity.

“The thing about this contest is that it’s addressing both ends of the spectrum, in a way. We are looking at the creators - the designers - and giving them the opportunity to have their work seen by a global audience on a global platform (to be announced), and we are looking at the makers, the garment workers, who are responsible for supporting our industry in such a significant way. We wanted to make sure that they are not forgotten and to work in partnership with two organizations that are on the ground bringing about real change.”

These two partnerships are with Awaj Foundation in Bangladesh and The Fifth Pillar (TFP) in Myanmar. Though much of the fashion industry is suffering, one group particularly effected are the garment workers without whom there would be no industry. In countries like Myanmar and Bangladesh COVID-19 has significantly affected garment workers, where the ready-made garment (RMG) industry is a huge export earner. That is why through a percentage of funds raised via the $30 contest entry fee and partnership contributions, RCGD Global Design Contest 2020 in partnership with Tencel Luxe will be directing funds raised towards these crucial organizations to provide aid during these difficult times.

As for the contest, Samatoa has some simple yet empowering advice on what can will help your design capture the eyes of the judges.

“Think about the story. We are speaking to a global audience, so think about bringing who you are if it’s your culture, if it’s your particular creative style, really look at introducing your signature to the design and telling an interesting story. I think what stands out is when you can get a very strong sense of somebody and their vision from their submission. You don’t have to be the most incredible sketch artist, when I entered my sketching was not exceptional I’ll be the 1st to admit! It’s about your passion and it’s about connecting with an idea, even if you’re not from the sustainable fashion area, and creating something beautiful for a gown or suit. I honestly just say go for it, just give it your best shot!”
