Founder of Ladies Nation, Lana Boss on Creating Her Badass Brand

...if it was easy, then everyone would be doing it.
— Lana Boss

I want my clothing to have the classic edge of 90s Hip Hop, scream I know my worth, and most importantly make me feel fly, fierce, and sexy. Because as you know we must SLAY ALL DAMN DAY! It’s a tall order but Ladies Nation can deliver.

A global brand inspiring women to wear their words of self worth, Ladies Nation has everything from bomber jackets, shirts, hoodies, and undies all representing the Ladies Nation brand and movement. Our personal favorite would have to be the, “Lord Help These Basic Bitches” Tee, only because well let’s be honest, we’ve all said this very thing to ourselves plenty of times -plus the tee is cute!

We had the chance to interview Lana Boss the Founder, CEO, and Creative Director of Ladies Nation where we spoke about her inspirations, a woman’s worth, Ladies Nation parties, and so much more.

WHAT INSPIRED LADIES NATION?

I grew up watching music videos and I always wanted to see music artists and dancers wearing my clothes, so I can say that music and dance played a major part in creation of LADIES NATION.

Over the time my vision grew into something way bigger than just designing and selling clothes.

The way the women are treated nowadays and what’s even worse accepting it, is what led to Ladies Nation to become this culture that teaches women not to settle for less than they deserve.

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHAT DESIGNS GO YOUR CLOTHING?

I design clothes first for myself and then for the world. All the pieces you see I made them for myself and I would sometimes wear it for months before I would put them in the production.

There’s a story behind every collection and basically I use clothes to tell a message.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU ABOUT FASHION AND HAVE YOU ALWAYS WANTED YOUR OWN CLOTHING LINE?

I’ve been always fascinated how a piece of clothing can make a woman feel. I always say my product is not clothes, my product is a feeling.

Yes, I wanted to have my clothing line since very young age. Back when I was a teenager I would hand made the pieces and using my friends as models or myself I would style the outfits and take photos and shoot videos. I’ve probably done like a hundred of photo/video shoots during this period of time.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 FAVORITE PIECES IN THR LADIES NATION COLLECTION AND WHY?

Definitely Fierce Oversized Hoodie, Ladies Nation Underwear and THE BOSS Bomber.

Why? You would have to wear them to understand.

LADIES NATION IS MORE THAN JUST A CLOTHING LINE, ITS A WAY OF LIFE. TELL US ABOUT THE WOMEN THAT MAKE UP LADIES NATION AND WHAT LADIES NATION STANDS FOR?

I’m so happy that I’m able to communicate my brand in a way that people can see and understand that Ladies Nation is more than clothes. It’s a whole mindset, culture, movement.

Ladies Nation stands for this independent, fierce woman, she is the boss of her life, she knows what she wants and she doesn’t stop until she gets it.

WHAT ARE SOMETHINGS YOU TELL YOURSELF TO KEEP GOING WHEN THINGS START GETTING TOUGH?

I tell myself that it’s all part of the process that’s necessary to get me when I want to be. Every time I feel tired I remember what a good friend of mine always keeps telling me: ‘Lana, if it was easy, then everyone would be doing it.’

I’m on a mission and I know there are women and girls looking up to me, so I keep going for them and for my younger self.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR LADIES NATION EVENTS.

Ladies Nation Events are about fashion, music and networking.

We have Ladies Nation Nights which are held every week in New York City and then we have Ladies Nation Party where we have a music artist performing.

Ladies Nation Nights are free as long as you own a piece from Ladies Nation. All you have to do it rsvp to events@ladiesnation.com

WHAT IS YOUR ONE GOAL YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE WITH LADIES NATION?

It’s hard for me to name only one.

I want Ladies Nation in the life of every woman in the world. Not just a piece of clothing in their closet but a piece of the mindset and the culture that the brand is representing.

I’ve been told my dream was impossible because I come from nothing, my goal is to build this LADIES NATION empire and show that doesn’t matter where you came from, you can do anything you want as long as you believe in it.

I want my story and the brand’s message to change lives, inspire women, empower them and make them believe that there’s a better life waiting for each of us if we stop settling for less.

DESCRIBE YOUR SLAY.

I’m extremely passionate about what I do and I have an insane work ethic.

I have a clear vision for my brand and what I want my life to be, I am a strong believer that all things are possible and lm willing to put in the hard work to make things
