5 Small Changes to Improve your Gut Health
It's 2022. Let's prioritize gut health.
Your gut health affects your entire body. Your gut may be having a larger impact on your well-being than you think. Because the gut forges such a strong connection with so many other elements of our well-being, it's essential to keep it healthy. More than 90 percent of serotonin, the hormone that makes us feel happy, is produced in the gut, and 80% of your immune system is in the gut. So, if your gut is imbalanced and your immune system isn't working properly, your serotonin and hormones won't either, making it more challenging to stay healthy.
Here are a few ways to improve your gut health.
1.) Eat probiotics & prebiotic
Which helps boost the population and diversity of good bacteria. They may help reduce gut inflammation and stimulate the gut's natural immune system. Here are some examples to add into your diet.
Prebiotic: almonds, apples, bananas, broccoli, flax seeds, garlic, onions
Probiotics: fermented foods such as kimchi, kombucha, miso, sauerkraut, tempeh, yogurt
2.) Eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.
Besides providing a healthy dose of vitamins and minerals, they're also a good source of fiber — the main fuel for those bacteria. The more bacteria you have from food, the more health benefits.
3. ) Be Mindful
Being in an environment that induces stress can negatively affect your gut because it changes the way the gut functions and can affect brain-gut communication. This is why we lose our appetite, become inflamed, or feel discomfort in our stomach when we are anxious.
Be mindful about what you're putting in your body, how you're moving your body, and your daily routine. You would be surprised how much stress can affect your body.
4.) Prioritize Sleep
Who doesn't love sleeping? When you are Sleep-deprived, your brain lacks the tools to function correctly. This can cause you to misread hunger cues messing up your digestive system.
5.) Move yo body
Movement is medicine, seriously. Exercise promotes an increase in the diversity of healthy bacteria in the gut. So, let's get moving and take care of that gorgeous body from the inside out.
