Tips to guide you along your wellness journey
Life can be hectic; we can quickly lose sight of ourselves and get caught up in the motions of everyday life. When this happens, we need to take a step back and recognize what parts of our lives bring us joy and what parts cause stress. Wellness looks different to everyone; it is simply the act of practicing healthy habits to enhance one's physical, emotional, and mental well-being. For example, movement, reading, journaling, cooking. Etc. It can even be something so small as putting on lotion before bed. It's whatever makes YOU feel good. However, with that being said, I have a few tips that can help kickstart you towards your wellness goals and help guide you to figure out what exactly wellness means to you.
1. Think about the energy givers and takers in your life.
Focus on the things in your life that enhance it and make you feel good. Remember those things and focus on doing them more often. Recognize the parts of your life that leave you feeling empty, figure out if it's something worth keeping or if you should stop putting time/energy into it.
2. Do something every day that makes you feel good.
This looks different for everyone. It can be as small as lighting a candle in the morning or a 10-minute walk around the neighborhood. Implement small additions that make you excited to wake up in the morning.
3. Write out your goals and intentions.
Figure out what your priorities are. Make goals for different areas of your life: Social, work, mental health, physical health, academics, etc. Writing out your goals will make it easier for you to visualize what it is you want.
4. Create a routine.
Find what works for you. Be realistic. Don't stretch yourself too thin by overworking yourself. This routine should be sustainable enough to become your lifestyle. Consistency is key.
5. Surround yourself with a positive environment.
Your environment can significantly affect your health and wellness. If you are in a negative environment, it will affect all other areas of your life. Make sure the circle of people surrounding you will hold you accountable and help you along your journey. Stay close to people who push you to be the best version of yourself.
