Your Trip to Miami: The Only Guide You Needw
Written by Sadie Brooks
Miami is a world-famous city and for all the right reasons: it’s fun, sunny, exciting, liberal and full of adventures for all sorts of travelers. From the legendary Miami Beach to Little Havana and the secrets of the Biscayne Bay, any traveler will have a blast spending time in Miami heat. However, it’s always better to come prepared so you know exactly where to go in order to meet adventure head-on. Here's a little guide that will turn your regular Miami trip into a true travel experience:
When to visit?
When visiting a tropical destination like Miami, it might be logical to visit in the summer, but don’t get surprised if you have to go through a thunderstorm every day. These might catch you by surprise but rain and thunder won’t last a long time. However, what will stay after the storm is humidity. Therefore, it’s better to visit Miami in the fall or spring to avoid horrible humidity and heat. Technically, summer is the off-season for Miami, so you can expect cheaper flights and accommodation. It all depends on what you’re planning to do when you get there—stay on the beach or go exploring.
Find good accommodation
Even though you won’t spend a lot of time in your room while in Miami, it’s still important to find the right accommodation. If you find the right hotel, you can get all the rest you need and save a lot of money you can later spend on attractions. If you want to focus on the beach, then stay somewhere on South Beach or Mid Beach. Brickell and Downtown Miami are speckled with new hotels with ultimate comfort, but to get to the beach, you’ll need to spend about 20 minutes in a car or Uber.
Get around Miami like a pro
Renting a car in Miami is not a very practical idea. Parking is hard to find downtown, and even if you manage to find it, it’s expensive. The best way to move around in Miami is to rely on Uber, Lyft, and your feet. This will allow you to walk around, explore and relax. Another fun thing to do is to rent a bike for the day. Along the beachfront, you’ll get to enjoy a gorgeous bike path that will take you through Art Deco views and under beautiful palms. It’s easy to find bikes for rent—just look up CitiBike stations or rental companies at the beach.
Have a foodie adventure
Miami is a perfect spot for food lovers because it’s a melting pot of cultures, nationalities, and cuisines different people brought with them. When in Miami, forget about your diet for a few days and try to enjoy a variety of different foods, especially when it comes to seafood. Being close to the sea allows you to come across the best seafood menu you can enjoy with a relaxing waterfront view. You can start with shrimp cocktails and fresh oysters before you switch to grilled fish with top-notch fried rice. Miami also has a very good offer of Chinese food, BBQ meals, and of course Mexican and Cuban food. If you can visit Miami during any of the several food festivals and you’ll get to enjoy the best street food from all around the world.
Explore the nature
Miami is blessed with many different landscapes from white beaches to swamps and bays, and it would be a shame not to do some wildlife exploration. There are great excursions from Miami that will take you to the Everglades swamps where you will catch a boat and go gator spotting. You can also visit Key West and have a full day of watching dolphins and snorkeling. National Parks around Miami also have accessible hiking trails that will take you through all the best sites in the Miami area and wider.
See some art
Miami might be known for wild parties and heated beaches, but there’s so much more to this amazing city. In reality, Miami has an amazing art scene that’s worth exploring, especially if you’re a lover of street art. Make sure to set one afternoon aside for exploring Wynwood Art District and check out its murals. Vizcaya Museum is also worth a visit for all architecture and history buffs.
Miami doesn’t require a lot of preparation in order to be enjoyed to the fullest. With these tips, you’ll organize a great trip that will show you why Miami is one of the most famous travel destinations in the world.
