Where Will I End Up from Here?

“When shifts and transitions in life shake you to the core, see that as a sign of greatness that’s about to occur.”

The woman writing this piece has officially turned 35 years of age. In my previous articles that I have written for, So She Slays, I shared a lot about my mental and emotional health. Most of my life journey has been about me making peace, forgiving myself, and learning to let go. I can firmly state that I am a totally healed person- I am whole. While there will always be room and space to grow, I now have the tools I need to continue to live my best full self. I learned how to love and accept love. As for my career, I transitioned back into an industry I swore off.

The majority of my 9 to 5 life after undergrad has been in real estate, (both residential and commercial). Around the spring of 2018, I was seeking to find ways to give back to communities that were both underserved, and often looked over. I was afforded the opportunity to collaborate with large, non-profit agencies in the south- where I would engage, and capacity build for those who resided in low, socio-economic areas. In the past, I often switched locations of residencies, as well as jobs when I felt like it. I never took the proper time to thoroughly dissect WHY? Why did I always set a hard deadline to leave, and abruptly move from one state/city to another? During these seasons of change, I would not let anyone know what I was doing until the lease was signed, and the W-2 forms were submitted and approved. Pivoting from the non-profit sector, back into property management has been a true testament of grace for me.

Dictionary tells us that transitioning is, “the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another.” When one is changing, everything and everyone around them either must fall in line or fall off. While every person has a full right to switch their lives around- one must always consider giving grace amid pivoting. Essentially, the ability to adapt or improve by adjusting or modifying (something, such as a product, service, or strategy) will always have a great effect on others. Because I have “been here before” with my career, it was easy for me to go back to what I knew. For those who are not familiar with where they see themselves going, there are wonderful tools and resources to assist.

Ways To Pivot and Transition:

  • Get Comfortable with Risk.

  • Reach out to others- NETWORK.

  • Overcome Feeling Stuck.

  • Show That You Have the Right Skills. (Resume time!)

  • Set Goals- and stick to them. Hold yourself accountable.

  • Let go of regrets of your past.

  • Change your beliefs about self-doubt and worry.

  • Engage with the librarian at your local library. Loads of resources for FREE.

“A lot of people resist transition and therefore never allow themselves to enjoy who they are. Embrace the change, no matter what it is; once you do, you can learn about the new world you’re in and take advantage of it.”
