Insecure is WOKE AF

Seriously, HBO has done well this Fall.

I am all about the new show Insecure.

Insecure is from the brilliant mind, Issa Rae.

Issa Rae is the woman behind the hit web series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl. If you haven't seen this web series, please check it out! You don't have to be an Awkward Black Girl to appreciate this hilarious web series.

Insecure, celebrates black friendship, life, love and everything in between. It's authentic and original. This show is honest, and within each scene, you can be like "ooh snap that's me or that's so and so."

As a black woman in her late twenties, I can relate to both of the female leads. Issa and Molly (Yvonne Orji) showcase two women trying to deal with everyday life with real life uncomfortable moments. We all have had the Issa moment when people at work ask you "ethnic questions regarding what does fleek mean or why is your hair like that" Also dealing with the boyfriend who is always trying to find their business plan. Raise your hand if you know that man. I know I do.

Yvonne Orji is incredible as her character Molly. Molly is the girl who worked her ass off in her career but has to deal with the whole dating world. You know the trouble trying to figure out why she can’t find a good man.  Girl we all been there.

This show is just woke af. It's honest and real. It's good to see two black women living everyday life and maintaining a healthy friendship. No hair pulling, throwing water across the table (btw don't get me wrong I love ratchet TV) but its good to see a healthy friendship without the other mess.

I love seeing strong black females on screen (Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder), but with this show, it's a refreshing experience to see black women I can totally relate to at this point in my life.  I know I'm not saving the White House or covering up a murder with the Keating 5 anytime soon.  But I do know I am dealing with the everyday struggles of being a woman trying to navigate life in my late twenties and I can relate to that.

Insecure is just a dope show. HBO-- Sunday Nights.

Thank you, Issa Rae.
