How to Stay "Healthy" on Vacation

I am about to do some serious traveling – I will be on the West Coast for about two months. As someone who tries their best to live somewhat of a healthy lifestyle, I know a concern that I have when traveling is how I can continue that healthy lifestyle while on the road.

One of the biggest things I’ve come to learn is that being “healthy” is simply a mindset and can be a simple thing.

Of course, having a routine, a gym schedule, and my own kitchen helps elevate that healthy mindset, but I’ve learned I don’t necessarily need all of those things to feel healthy.

One of the easiest ways for me to feel healthy is with hydration. Staying strapped with my water bottle ensures that I’m drinking enough to not only take care of my body but to feel good. When I don’t drink enough water in a day, I notice I get pretty bad headaches, and my skin also isn’t as clear when I don’t drink enough water.

I also think getting eight hours of sleep is another way for me to feel healthy, especially while on vacation. When I get less than eight hours, not only am I pretty cranky, but I also don’t have a lot of energy, which is not good when I’m on vacation and I want to do as many things as possible.

Another way I can feel healthy while on vacation involves my meals. I try to find a balance between making my own meals and eating out, so I can still enjoy the food and local flavor of wherever I’m traveling, but also by cooking my own meals, know exactly what I’m putting into my body.

I think a big proponent of having a healthy mindset is knowing moderation. It’s finding a balance between running around on vacation and being a couch potato. It’s honoring my cravings, but also knowing what makes my body feel good, and what doesn’t. It’s resting when I am tired, and pushing my body when I know I should be taking advantage of where I am or what I am doing.

So, I do think it’s all a mindset. I used to think traveling would interrupt my healthy lifestyle. I’ve come to learn now though, that if I feel healthy, I am healthy.
