A Divided United States
As I sit here 12:17am PST I'm in shock. How could this be happening? How could he have won? I'm in a state of confusion as I sit back worried for what the future will bring. Hands covering my mouth in utter disbelief -this is the America we live in?
If you would've asked me last night that I thought this is how it would end I would have said never in a million years. It would seem that as a country we just took 10 steps backwards and I'm heartbroken.
I woke up this morning with one thing on my mind. VOTE. I did my research. I looked over all my propositions and measures, I was ready to go. This election was different for me. I was physically going in to vote rather than voting absentee. As I stood in line I was excited to cast my ballot and hopefully be apart of a history making decision. All that came crashing down as it was announced that America's new President would be Donald Trump.
Dumbfounded.
How could we as Americans be alright with over looking sexual assault, racist statements, and overall lack of knowledge pertaining to anything political? How could we as a country elect a man that said he would grab females by the pussy over a woman that has spent her entire life preparing for this job?
America what did we just do?
How do you explain to your children the events of tonight's election? That every single thing you taught them about being respectful, kind, and a decent person doesn't stand true. That you can be a bully, you can be disrespectful to others different then you, and you can get rewarded for it?
We are embarking on quite possibly one of the most divided periods in United States history. To embrace the America I stand for I say instead of hate we try to understand. Take a look at it from the other prospective. In at least opening the door to attempting to understand we may actually be able to get through 4 years.
I would be lying if I said I'm not nervous because I am. There is a man in office, our President, that goes against everything that America has said it stood for.
Now we and the rest of the world sit and wait to see what's to come.
